A recent convert to this forum, has been having trouble with moles in his garden, having tried traps he found they just dug round them. So he has been sitting out with a rather powerful compound bow shooting telegraph poles at the mole hills when he saw the soil move, no luck so far! Oh , and he thinks there are some wierdos on this forum, should fit in well then.

Try putting mothballs down the holes, ive heard that works well
or instead of using a compound bow try a 12 bore!

it is illegal to kill any animal with a bow in the united kingdom. Doesnt matter even if it is viewed as vermin, please point out to your friend he is breaking the law in a way which will bring archery in to dispute and get him a very big fine

He just doesn't know how to do it! I've never had a problem catching them with traps.

You just need to find the fresh run and take care when placing the trap. Make as little impact on the run as you can and lightly cover the top of the trap with loose soil so as to block out any light getting into the run.

Although I haven't caught one for a while now, the 3 dogs can catch them so it saves me a job. :D

find a mole hill and dig a bit out, insert gas bottle, put lit taper on all other mole hills and retire to safe distance, as moles dig out they release the gas it hits the taper and whoomph!!!.

What ASW says... Big time!

We do not need this kind of exposure or we'll soon find ourselves up to our mole-hills in additional legislation and bad press.

Tell him get the vermin control in and do it properly.

two other ways of getting rid of moles is either to put a hose pipe down the hole and force them out that way or get cattle to graze, moles don't like cows treading on them!:raspberry
these are probably the most useless suggestions if they are in his back garden!:mind-blow

Doesn't work permanently, they go to higher ground then once the water drains away they come back

Unfortunaltely cows can step on the runs and end up breaking bones meaning it's an early trip to the great cow pasture in the sky

Trust me the only diffrence between welsh moles and welsh colliers is that one is coverd in fur, so extreme mesures must be taken, this aproach also works on Mink just add a galon of red diesel/petrol mix (and a bigger distance).

And before someone has a go at me for this approach, A family of Mink can wipe out all other rodents/ducks in an area and they even attack cats, dogs and people. And yes I would happily use this method on the activists that release them into the wild.

Nothing against moles myself, but mink are vicious little ......, and will kill just for the pleasure, the only animal I can think of that does, maybe foxes too, and homo sapiens. They know no fear and I know 2 people who have been attacked by them. Mink have no redeeming features, still don't think I would kill one. Oh, and the mole shooting attempt has stopped, it was only a one off shot.
