SCAS

Is there anyone here who is deeply involved in SCAS? Although they only take £2 a year from me and the adults amongst the other 16,000 archers in the region, they have funds of just over £300,000 which seems like a lot of cash for a local sports association to sit on in current times. They give out a few thousand in grants each year amounting to around half of the value of their income and, as far as I can tell, run a limited number of competitions which are self funding.
How have and how will members of clubs within the region benefit from the funds and should a substantial part of them be returned to the clubs?

Absolutely. A few years ago we were developing a proposal for an archery project near London, and looking for funding sources. It looked tailor-made for SCAS. But we were told by several experienced archery folk "Don't even bother to ask SCAS, they will never spend their reserves on anything."

SCAS has had similar levels of funds for many years. I recall being baffled by it when I was a SCAS rep 20/25 years ago. Basically, the region is so big that £2 a head mounts up, and surplus cash over decades is squirrelled away.
There's possibly a good argument that better use should be made of it, but having sat through SCAS meetings; good luck getting that through...

So who decides that clubs have to be affiliated to SCAS and are they involved in monitoring and overseeing the activities of SCAS?
If SCAS don't support clubs and the replies seem to suggest that they may not, why should clubs support SCAS by sending them a few pounds every year?

I think we've been through this before.... AGB decides... when clubs in NI decamped from the region and members affiliated direct to avoid it, AGB issued an interpretation which requires members to affiliate to a county/region even if they are direct.
