Carter Chocolate Addiction Release Aid issue

Hi All,

Had the Carter for several years, and yesterday the cocklever decided to become really hard to get the jaw to close, like something was stuck or jammed, so had to start doing the jaw with my finger and then it would allow it to lock. By the end of the shoot, the lever wouldn't move the jaw at all unless you did the jaw manually first.

Has anyone had this issue and is it an easy fix? Going to order a spare as my other carter is a manual lock anyway, and has 4 fingers not 3 i am used to.

Cheers

Hi... I had a Target 3 that started locking up on release. It was a tolerance issue with the machining of the case void. It may be you only have crud built up in one of the void areas. They are easy to take apart and put together. I did initially suspect the sears but all the sears and levers are Rockwell 60 hardened and after five years of shooting in any weather, with no maintenance they showed virtually no wear at all except on the sear pins.
Here is a video of the chocolate if you haven't already seen it...
I wrote a full technical report on the Target 3 failure if you want to read it. PM me and I will send a copy.

If you bought it new, Carter are really, really good at fixing things under warranty*. But if you are going to give taking it apart yourself to give it a clean, get one of those clear freezer bags and pull it apart in the bag... just in case things go *ping* when you pull the two parts apart!

* - I once broke some internal parts by accidentally loosing the release into a tree... even though I'd bought the release something like 10-12 years earlier, WAS sent it back to Carter and they returned it fully working again at no cost!

Cheers for the info guys. Stripped and cleaned without any issues. Looks like on the edge of a couple of parts it had slight rust points (what it looked like anyway) gentle rub off and clean, only used WD40 as a coating, and working perfect again.
