AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

The nature of our occupations is such that we use these products on a frequent basis, we fully understand the nature of the products and their handling. Appreciate the concern guys. Karl

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

We have access to IPA based liquid sanitising spray fluids - not gels - in industrial quantities (if required) and funds to cover their purchase so the decision was made to go down this route. Karl

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

They didn’t need to but they took it upon themselves to do so - they will also be doing it from here on in until archery returns to the old normal. In reality as we only shoot on a Saturday and the virus only remains live for around 72 hrs on hard surfaces then we don’t need to have individual...

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

You could always move the shooting line forward at distance change rather than moving all the bosses. Karl

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

One of the field team attended site Friday to spray a set of 12 bosses, stands and tie-downs with an IPA based disinfectant, these were used Saturday. Other than that we followed everything in my post and it went really smoothly. Only having targets at 50yds & 30yds - as requested by members -...

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

Well we came, we setup, we arched, we took down the field and everyone had a good time under safe conditions. Despite a wicked little gusting crosswind only half a dozen arrows missed the bosses set at a max 50yds and all were found by the archers who shot them very quickly atop the well cut...

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

We start back tomorrow morning - all archers limited to a max target distance of 60yds but of the 14 or so members who have confirmed their attendance (acceptance of RA, etc) the preferred distance is 30m or 40yds, comments are primarily “I’m rusty and want to break myself in gently”. Lost...

Not at all - just my scarily anal H&S head tripping my pedant mode 😁😁 Karl

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

Not strictly true - we adhere to this method since certain operations within our manufacturing require the handling of substances in their concentrated form that are extreme skin irritants so gloves are removed very carefully indeed as are the full face respirators we utilise in those areas. I...

We’ve run into a bigger issue - target pins ! The risk assessment handed down by AGB states only JVD or Beiter pinch pins are to be used - we as a club have never used those pins and of course our equipment manager has today failed to find a supplier with any in stock. Typical 🙄 Karl

Multiple lockdowns are definitely not out of the question - heaven forbid we reach winter and experience a C-19 spike alongside a flu outbreak which would be catastrophic. Karl

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

I can’t see an indoor season in all honesty for any club that doesn’t own their own venue which is single user. I shoot occasional indoor with Allington Castle who use Maidstone indoor market hall, this is a multi-user venue hosting auctions & boot sales as well as Friday night archery...

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

Now that’s a good option - obviously a fair bit more work for the field team but if you have the room to accommodate the extra spacing & they are up for it then why not. By having the archers place a separate face on each boss rather than move their one face at distance change then boss contact...

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

You won’t be able to shoot a round - the AGB guidelines say not to move the bosses once set out so it’s a case of putting your own target face of choice on the preset boss and shooting some arrows in a safe (overshoots, etc) and controlled environment. We are going to give our members the...

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

Even at 30m (frostbite) we get flyers that need hunting out but hopefully people will self regulate their distances. Karl

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

AGB seems to have overlooked something - finding lost arrows ! Our field is shared so no arrows can be unaccounted for at the end of a session & our normal routine is everyone does a walking visual arrow sweep after each end then the metal detectors or rakes come out for stubbornly lost arrows...

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

How are other clubs dealing with the instruction by AGB that targets should not be moved during a session? We've decided to set a few targets at each of 60, 40 & 20yds so our members can choose a distance but will need to stick to that distance for the entirety of their session. Karl

Had a great virtual meeting - good to see fellow archers even if it’s on a screen. Disinfectant sprays, heavy duty gloves, sanitiser gel & wipes, etc being sourced from various workplace stocks - we know they will be effective as our respective sites have all remained Covid free to date. We...

    [OTHER] Right bow length

On the odd couple of times I’ve shot a field course I took along my either my recurve minus all its dangly bits or my flatbow, both of which are 68” and had no problem moving around. Did swap quivers after my first session as my usual recurve one is steeply angled making the arrows catch a lot...

AGB Advice for returning to shooting 13/5/20

Our club is having a virtual meeting this evening to comply with guidelines and with luck we should be up and shooting tomorrow as there’s nothing within the guidelines we hadn’t already planned for before the enforced lockdown. I‘m off to shoot later this morning at a local longbow only site...
