    Arrows for field

Next minor issue - the points are screw ins and so not 100% flush. So they won't pull out of my Mybo target bag without almost wrecking it! Luckily I have an old foam boss. They seem to go pretty well and I've been able to experiment with nocks which is very handy indeed. Overall, a good choice...

    garden set up advice please!

Blimey who’d have thought a home Range was so tricky to set up? Fortunately our 15m range backs onto a 20 acre field. I have almost half a mile of overshoot. But I still constantly check no one is in the field (very rare anyway; maybe twice a year?) despite not missing the boss for at least a...

Launcher How reliable are Hamskea drop away rests?

When I suffered from a bad case of draw wobble/fear/anxiety, my arrows kept coming off the rest. I was also nervous of drawing down (I’d had a bad experience with a couple of releases; I kept pinging arrows too early and lost a few) and it got so bad, I nearly gave up. I moved to a wide V rest...

    Arrows for field

Just read the second message; that’s very kind - thanks! I’ll try the Beiters and if I get nowhere, I’ll whizz you a message. It’s odd as the nock on my others are fine; these are just a bit narrow near the back of the nock.

    Arrows for field

Oh darn I read this too late! I was advised by the shop to order Beiter 19/2 hunter nocks so got some of them on the way. If they don’t work, I’ll go for your recommendation!

    Arrows for field

Arrrghhh - tried them and the nocks are too narrow for my string! Apparently they are Easton Super nocks - but my spare nocks (which fit the string fine) are no good as they're too small (diameter) for the arrow shafts. So who makes "fat" nocks with wide grooves?!?

Archery shops - Are they taking the mick? (Online orders)

Arrows (and wax) just arrived. I am slightly gobsmacked at how quick that was; custom order with vanes and nock specified, cut to length.

Archery shops - Are they taking the mick? (Online orders)

Well I’m about to eat my words because it appears the arrows will be delivered today. I have no idea how as it was a special order! And TBF they have been helpful. So I’ll shut up and pay. Agree about listing items as stock when they aren’t; incredibly annoying.

Gone for the Powerflights - fingers crossed they work okay. I would use my ACGs for everything but they definitely get far more hammered on short range shots and a £25 arrow is painful to lose/break!

Archery shops - Are they taking the mick? (Online orders)

Sorry but I am pretty price aware. Pretty much every other industry manages far better postage costs than archery. I do a lot of other sport - surfing, MTBing, all sorts and Archery has by FAR the most rip off P&P prices. It's annoying and no I'm not some gullible buyer. In fact I do it as part...

    Very short range.

I will investigate - thanks again!

Archery shops - Are they taking the mick? (Online orders)

Just been "stung" - half a dozen arrows and some string wax, a touch under £9 for P&P - that's excessive. My mower (big 21" petrol Honda), Strimmer (big commercial grade Stihl,) two bikes, big surfboards and much much more had FREE P&P. It does really grate.

    Very short range.

Thanks again! The course was very challenging (but fun) with a load of tree limbs to shoot between/under/around/over so it really was tricky estimating range. That rangefinder idea sounds good; are they big money? Particular highlights were two long shots over a lake, one 60 yarder across a...

Brilliant - very helpful Andy; thanks!

    Very short range.

I got inner kills on all three close targets; so that’s that issue sorted. A shame my (lack of) mid range distance estimating ruined too many other shots!

    Arrows for field

Okay another silly question - I've bought my arrows pre-made in the past. XX75s and ACGs. I now need to specify the weight of my points. ACGs points seem to state 100-120g (slightly vague) from the place I bought them. No weight given for the XX75s. I'm thinking 100g to "match" the ACGs for...

Not really just the arrows I already have. Spoke to Merlin today and they suggested carbons; Easton Powerflite or Mybo Heatwave. Might give them a go!

    Arrows for field

Another cracking tournament yesterday near Brixham. I’ve sussed close range now (all 24s) and good on long range (where I use my precious ACGs) but definitely struggling on the medium range stuff; 25-45 yards. But that’ll hopefully improve with experience. My son shot well too in stunning...

    Very short range.

Most of the field shoot went well yesterday; my distance judging improved and at 20-50 yards all was good; over 50 and I underestimated twice but that?s easily sortable. However whoever designed the course clearly decided to make life very tricky for compounds: fair enough as we?re all evil...
