    Sir Clive Woodward Joins BOA

Woodward said: "The prospect of working together with our elite coaches and athletes is tremendously exciting for me. It is a privilege to join the BOA." ...and we're very pleased to have him. Why didn't anybody tell me before....:faint:

    Draw Sequence

Watching the England/Japan and Korea/China competition on archery-TV, there seems to be a common style in use, which is a two part draw- firstly to the front of the face touching the nose or jaw, and only then to under the jaw followed by release. Does anybody use this? Waht do others think- it...

    Scope For Improvement

This wasn't me, but I'm reporting it anyway... Yesterday shooting with my coach, he's got his compound set up & his scope on the shooting line. Shoots, checks, shoots, checks.. All kinds of swearing- 'I cannot possiblly have @x@xing missed twice.' Shoots, checks, more swearing, 'What is wrong...

    Compound handicap

How much (percentage) would you have to reduce a compound score by to enable recurve & compound archers to compete against each other? I.e. what what handicap might you put on a score at 60 yards?

    Yorkshire County Champions

I think they may be shy of blowing their own trumpet, but I believe both Furface and Littlest Furface have achieved that status in their respective sections of the Yorkshire Clout shooting championships. Perhaps they will elaborate if pressed...;)

    Emotional Attachment to Kit

I lost a Navigator last week & after much searching gave up; posted a notice in the clubhouse & left it, somehow feeling I'd lost touch with a friend... On Tuesday night it turned up, deeply buried in the BoA grass. My heart leapt at the happy re-acquaintance and I caught myself muttering...

    Contact lenses...

At the risk of irritating my coach again I'm making some changes- this time I'm going from specs to contact lenses. Don't know if it will affect shooting or not- anyone else experienced this?

    A Curious Day

As documented elsewhere myself, LMP & Miner Willy were at De La Salle in Sheffield on Sunday for the Abbeydale Soup Shoot. I have to say I had a somewhat difficult day, and my experience does not show some archers in a good light. As some of you know I shoot in red, being the BoA colours. Boy...

    Tents

I'm sure many people use a mini-tent during the outdoor season. Are they worth it- I'm thinking of buying. What's good? (PS Ooops this should be in equipment) Your wish is my command - FA

    Spotting Scopes/binocs for recurve?

Do any recurve people bother with spotting scopes? I'm tempted to get a pair of binocs for the summer but I'm not entirely sure it's worthwhile- maybe for sight mark work only & not for tournaments- what do others do? Pete

You know you're an archer when...

You criticise Legolas's form When someone says 'where's the boss?' you say, 'straw or foam?' You check your sight marks for the waste bin You walk round the office with your arms at pre draw Your network manager gives you funny looks and waves the internet analysis at you You wonder whether the...

    Fame

Somewhere in the achievement news page of AIUK in very small letters (p43) I get a mention- not as exciting as Furface's, but nevertheless..

    Modifying platform tabs

I'm playing about with adding layers of plastic onto my tab platform. The idea is to drop my release hand slightly thus increasing the arrow elevation & distance capability. I'me doing this as I have a relatively short face, limiting the options between eye & chin. Anyone else tried this? I...

    Mental Training

There have been many comments on how much this sport relies on mental training but it seems one of the hardest things to quantify. You can fix equipment issues reasonably easily but you can't fix your mind in the same way. Whether it's what you think about before the shooting line, on the...

Archery at the next Commonwealth games?

Radio 5 Live are asking people to text in their recommendations for sports to be included in the next games in Delhi. They're debating between archery, snooker & billiards (what? at this rate we'll have shove ha'penny) so if you'd like to text your opinion it's 85058 & your message :) pete

    Fitting arrow rests

My original plastic arrow rest having died a death I've replaced it with a cavalier arrow rest, which is a small sprung piece of double bent wire. Having fitted it & adjusted the wire so my arrow shaft sits against the middle of the plunger I find myself worrying about what the wire will do to...

    Shooting with Flu

Not a great shooting aid. I found that the hot & cold shivers, sweating, general sense of run-down-ness & absence of energy don't boost your scores one bit. In fact, I dropped 50 points off my average. I won't be recommending this tactic in future....
