I've been looing for a sturdy/strong budget tripod for ages without much luck. There doesnt seem to be much in the ?35-?50 category that seems upto the job...?100+ no problem but I dont want to spend that much money...any ideas?

I have been quite impressed with the Manfrotto tripods that I have seen. I use a bungee and spike my tripod down.

I use a Velbon CX-686 - holds steady enough in anything bar gale force winds and as I've only got an Aldi scope I decided it wasn't worth splashing out on a fancy tripod. Another benefit is that with the legs extended and the head right down it sits just around armpit height so is compliant with the FITA rules :raspberry.

Spotting scope stands

I am amazed that I'm tjhe only one who uses a spotting scope stand that was designed and intended to be used as a spotting scope stand. I never assumed that photographic tripods were so popular.
