afternoon all, I am just finishing knocking up a shave horse. trying to decide which branch to experiment on, I have some 6 foot hawthorn about 4" diameter (poss flat bow?) random unknowns of diameters ranging from 3 to 5" but not very straight and my most interesting bit, unknown wood poss conker, 6 ft but shaped like a lazy lower case m. another flat bow maybe long horsebow? what do you think?

Whatever takes your fancy... Hawthorn prob best... at least you know what it is.
Horsebow shape doesn't really suit a self bow except at low draw weight.

hi dell, I tried making a almost 6 foot bow, halfway between flat bow and elb… it broke! too weak around the handle. will be trying again at some point. as the only bare bow ( elb) at my club I decided to have a bare bow comp, it was suprising how quick people adjusted to it after removing all their recurve bits. my bow was for that, no time to make another so I am going a different route... a bunch of bamboo canes tied together. no idea if any good but will be used for first time on the day, should be fun!
