Cable Guard/Slide Causing Cam Lean/Limb Twist

Hi All,

I'm new to the whole compound thing so sorry if this is a silly question, I have done a fair bit of asking and googling to try and find an answer.

I have been setting up a bow and put a new set of limbs and cables on (supervised by someone knowing how to operate a bowpress).
The limbs were inserted in the same pattern as the ones they replaced.

When I got home and ready to shoot I noticed that when I put the cables in to the slide it caused the top limbs to twist and the cam to lean over as can be seen in the images below (AIUK wont let me add attachments at the moment). When not in the slide it looks fine.

I was wondering if this is OK to shoot and what I should do?
Should I shorten one of the yoke legs to get it straight when in guard?
Other suggestions I've seen are to swap limbs perhaps?
Any other advice?

Cam lean effects most compound bows. It can be adjusted relatively easily if you are able to press the bow. The link below might help...

Thanks, I have read that article in my searching.
My question was more that to an uninitiated compounder that looks like quite a large difference between when I have the cables in the cable guard and not.

Are you saying that it looks fine and this variation is normal?
If so I can go ahead and vary the yoke leg lengths...

Have you changed the location of the cable guard? If not you need to get that back to someone with a bow press and sort those bus cables out. Dont shoot it till then, you may get a derailment. Where are you in the country?

From the pictures it does not look a long way out, but it is always better to be on the safe side. If you press an arrow (parallel not barreled ) against the cam the arrow should be parallel with the bow string. If not you can untwist the yoke on the short side and twist up the yoke on the long side. Only do a single twist or two before testing as a little can go a long way. If you untwist one turn on one side you need to twist up one turn the other. This will keep all the timings correct. As a basic setup you want the arrow parallel with the bow string.

Oh, almost forgot. You only need enough cable guard clearance to clear the fletchings as they pass the cables. If you have an adjustable cable guard setting this to give minimum clearance reduces cam lean.

Brilliant, thanks so much. Glad it's not as horrendous as I thought it might be.

I'll arrange to press again and adjust the yoke lengths together to get it looking correct when in the cable guard.
I'll also take a look at the guard and see if I can bring it closer.

you will need to paper tune the bow after you adjust the yoke as you will probably have altered center shot
