Android scoring apps...

Some initial observations...

There is a lot of basic setup to do before you can get to the point of recording arrow scores. Not just your bow details, but also the weight of every arrow you're going to use... The bow details go down to the clicks per inch on the sight adjustments, and the eye to sight pin distance.
That's a lot of detail.

I know why that is; one of the features of the app is advice on how much to move your sight, and some of this information is needed for that. But it still feels like a lot of prep.

Entering arrows on the target screen was not intuitive. There's a marker with a point that you drag to the arrow location, then tap to enter the score. Then a list of the available shafts pops up and you have to select one.
I'm sure I would get quicker at doing this, but it's a lot of actions per arrow. Which is a pity, as the sightmark advice is potentially useful.

I'll have to see how it works for real, but I have a feeling this may be the sort of app I would end up only using as a training aid.

Doesn't sound very "lite"

Doesn't sound very "lite"
I'm maybe being a bit harsh... It's still not at version 1, yet, and it is quite pretty.
Things (mostly) behave themselves and I could see myself using it for analysis. It's jusy not, primarily, a scoring app. And to be fair, it doesn't describe itself that way. I think the phrase was; "the coach in your pocket'. Much more ambitious.

That may also be why "lite". I could see a lot of elaboration on that theme being possible.

I have had a look at a lot of the free apps that are about and most of them in my opinion are not that good. There are however 2 that stand out mile for me. Those are Archery Scorepad and Archery Companion.
I use them both. Archery Companion is great in that you can view what the rounds are. For someone that is quite new to Archery, I find this very useful. The other good thing about it is that it saves your score after each end, meaning that if your phone was to crash/reboot etc once you reload the app, the scores are still there.
Archery Scorepad (which is my favourite), unlike the others that I have tried is not free. I like the look and feel of this and has some nice features. These are:
Only displays the values that you can score (archery Companion only greys out the ones you can't use).
The scoring is colour coded to the target you are using.
You can export/email the scores
It will show you your classification and you can lookup classifications.

I wouldn't solely rely on Archery Scorepad as i do not find it as robust as Archery Companion. By that I mean that it has crashed on me and I have lost my scores. I was recoding manually as well though, so just meant that I re-entered them in. I did email James and he is looking at changing how the rounds are saved, so got to give credit to the developer. If this issue was resolved, then there would never be a need for another scoring app.

Well that was just my opinions and some will agree and some will disagree.

Agreed with Archery Scorepad, my only gripe with it is the size of the font on the scorecard - its too darned small for my poor eyes. The borders are thick and the text minisule and cannot be zoomed in. I am sure a bump onthe font would help me enormously.

I do like the rescore method in Archery companion - nothing wrong with Scorepad, I just prefer the other.

Both are comprehensive in both Imperial and Metric rounds which is a boon.

I have only tried a few of the free apps, but this is one of the reasons I got my Samsung Galaxy Player 4. I have been using this app for about 2 weeks now and am fairly impressed. I personally like the tap the target method of entry. I also like that if you hold down you can fine tune the placement within the zoom window. When you make a mistake, just tap on the incorrect score and re-enter it. You can export to excel, export to image and do some analysis. It lets you filter by end/by arrow/ and shows center of mass. It does offer the option of entering by score card as well, but I am interested in seeing my groupings, and more specifically if I have an arrow that is misbehaving. You can set up different distances and such as well as odd numbers of ends and arrows per end. It also lets you enter notes and comments. I shoot in my garage at 10 yds in ends of 4 arrows on 4 adhesives (out to 7 ring) stuck on a piece of cardboard on my shotblocker. It accommodates all of this. It displays the date and the score when you select old rounds to view. I have created a spreadsheet where I import each round so that I can do further analysis on the computer. All in all for a free app it does everything I wanted it to do, and quickly.
Cheers

Nothing to do with archery, but still worth a look at . . .

T-Counter

It does everything I currently want.
I'm just bashing away at the target not interested in scroecards or arrow numbers.
So easy to set up and use, can set X ring and 10 zone scoring and colour code too.

Archery companion.
It's the only one I have tried although not being able to email / backup my scores is annoying so I think I will give Archery scorepad a try. More than happy to spend a few quid that will save me hassle

One BIG benefit I can see with Archery Companion is that if your phone crashes or you close the app when you go back in nothing is lost and it asks you if you want to continue with the score card. Also being able to create custom rounds. Downside was that I found that if you do not have internet access the app would not open (may have been a problem with my phone though) Not a problem for me now as I have free internet but in the early days when I was pay as you go and didn't have internet access it was bloody annoying!

Ok, here's the thing. I am new to the sport, and I feel that an added incentive to practice well would be to have something to aim for (no pun intended). When I go to the club and shoot for 2 hours (the amount of ends or arrows are irrelevant) I want something that I can input each arrow score, and at the end of the whole session it will give me a mean average of my shooting that day. Then, the following week, I can try and better it. If I could see some sort of graph with progress then that would be a billy big bonus.

Any ideas?

I've been using Archery Score by Champagne for the past few months so here's my review of it:

Pros
Entering scores is done by touching a target face, which becomes quite quick once you get used to it. You can also paint numbers on your arrows and enter them in order so you can instantly spot misbehaving arrows. There is an analysis feature that allows you to see your grouping mid-round, you can hide all the shots by each arrow in turn to see where they're all going. One gripe is that the screen keeps changing zoom level when you do this which can become confusing.
Scores (and shot positions) are saved automatically on the 'automatic backup' each end so you don't lose stuff.
Recently the dev added multiple distances, so you can now shoot a round and have all the scores on the same sheet, previously you couldn't.
It totals your scores as you go, by end and by running total.

Cons
You can't shoot 'rounds'. You just keep entering arrows until you hit 'next end'. This makes it flexible but it's too easy to enter ends of 7 arrows by mistake and cock up your score sheet.
There is no score analysis really; you can plot a graph of your scores at a particular distance on a particular sized face, but you can't combine them, and it does not take account of how many arrows you shot each time. If you shoot 1 arrow and get a 10, you will see the same level of score as if you shoot 10 arrows and get 10 ones.
Classifications are absent, but so are rounds so that's to be expected.

Personally I like the target face input and the ability to see where my individual arrows are grouping. But I also want some analysis software, progress graphs, lists of rounds and classifications which this app does not deliver.

I also tried Artemis Lite, but the scores don't show up on my HTC OneX, I see a blank score card with coloured boxes on it, so I very quickly gave up with it.

Hello

I finally caught this thread and nice to see people who are using my app and thing it is a good. I am more then open to add new features (Facebook integration and own sight marks coming next).
My next two targets are to address the losing scores while shooting and the small fonts on some screen (zoom in coming)

If any issues / new features please let me know. I created the app with the help of a few guys here and I am thankful for that

AIUK integration would be good ;)

Only had this happen the once, halfway through a round flipped to another app. and AS seemed to have shut itself down. Other than that, quite enjoy using it, fairly simple and straightforward to use and a great place to keep my sightmarks (though sometimes these are wrong - can you fix this bug ;) )

I also use archery scorepad. Very good app.

Only problem I do have is it stops sending personal emails after a while.

I have got around this by using dropsync to synchronise the scorepad folder with Dropbox.
